Pandora’s Box Aversion

How do you feel about mass deportations as a solution for America today?

“I had always hoped that this land might become a safe and agreeable asylum to the virtuous and persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they belonged.” (George Washington)

In my capacity as teacher and professor for over thirty years, my classes were filled with a wide range of newcomers to this country. Most of them I discovered were eager to learn. So the following original poem represents my thoughts on dealing with the maelstrom of negativity regarding the status of immigration in my country as a result of the last election. For I find myself questioning whether any political party best represents my interests now.

Pandora’s Box Aversion

Behold New Year Shocks

That Golden Key Unlocks

For Deep Down A Monster Lies

Glowing Uncompromising Eyes

Hearing Newcomer Nightmares

Plunging Down Bottomless Stairs

Such Confusion Of Culture

Who Face Castaway Vulture

With Humanless Curse

To Make Matters Worse

 So Who Gets My Vote?

Just Build Me A Moat

  1. It is easy for politicians to make statements but are they the solution? People with wealth and power get away with everything and the poor suffer. This is happening all over the world.
