“Texas is like Australia with the handbrake off.” (Tim Blair)
What’s it like for me on this road trip traveling the desolate expanse of Texas west from San Antonio on Interstate 10 in excess of 80 mph? Not much really except for an occasional slowdown at Blue Elbow Swamp for some curious animal sightings and Van Horn, a small crossroads town where we stayed the night on Monday. But what most excited me was this colorful painting in the title photo of an authentic looking Mexican town that I observed during dinner tonight. Unfortunately it was not for sale or I might have bought it on the spot!

And the dinner was delicious!

Howdy James!
That sure looks like Mexican towns I’ve known and loved. I’ve been through Van Horn many a time on my way out to Big Bend National Park or the Guadalupe Mountains. I seem to remember having a nice plate of chile rellenos there a couple of three decades ago.
I loved that drive out through West Texas.
Safe travels, my friend.
Huzzah!

El Paso seemed to be a much better town than I expected except for that 39 foot wall.
